Poems
There seems to be an idea today that a poem is only good if it is difficult to understand. Andrew Motion, a former Poet Laureate, said, "Poetry is hard; get used to it." My response to that would be that Adrian Plass, a Christian author, said that he used to belong to a poetry writing group and wrote simple, readable poems - which were heavily criticised. As an experiment, he once strung together several clues from a Sunday Times cryptic crossword and read them as a piece of poetry - which the members all said was deep, insightful and wonderful!
I enjoy the poetry of writers such as John Betjeman (another former Poet Laureate), Rudyard Kipling, G K Chesterton and Thomas Hood, all of whose works ARE understandable and therefore enjoyable.
It is in this spirit that I try to write my verses. I do not claim that they are in any way 'great' poetry, but they do have something to say, which ranges from the solemn, even sacred sometimes, to the downright silly, written just for the fun of it and (hopefully) to amuse you.
I invite you to dive and maybe find at least one which brings you some pleasure or amusement!
